Abandoned Newborn Kittens
TCC has rescued hundreds of abandoned kittens. We have fosters trained in neonatal critical care as well as bottle feeders and tube feeders. We have also been blessed with an incubator and oxygen concentrator to use for preemies and critical newborns.
Mother cats abandon their babies for a number of reasons, but kittens under 4 weeks old cannot survive on their own. When contacted about abandoned newborns, our first step is to try and locate the mom and littermates. Kittens raised by humans have less chance of survival, so it is imperative that we first try to reunite the kitten with its family.
If we cannot locate the mother (and space allows) we will bring the kitten into our care, but with the staggering feral and stray population our bottle feeders fill up quickly during kitten season. If we are unable to accept a newborn kitten, we will reach out to other rescues, or help guide the finder on caring for it themselves. We also keep extra bottles, formula, and heating pads to help when someone from our community has found a kitten.
Kitten Lady is an amazing rescuer. For video tutorials on caring for abandoned kittens, we suggest you visit her website here.
Kitten supplies are expensive, and we go through them quickly during kitten season. If you would like to donate supplies for our neonates, please visit our Amazon and Chewy’s wishlists.
